Here is a real gadget of mine, and to prove it, I can reveal I haven't used it more than twice in 2005.
Do you know what it is, and why I've got it?
It is a Yaesu FT-817 qrp transceiver and I got it to pursue my amateur radio hobby.
The japanese are well known for their electronic products, and this gadget is a testament to the fine engineering from the country, a multi band HF, VHF and UHF radio packed with many bells and whistles in such a small package.

It's a satelite radio and you got it so you could listen to classic rock with no commericals?

A short-wave communication radio?

It is a ham radio, low power backpack type radio. You have it probably because you are a licensed ham or you want to listen to shortwave or use it when you handglide across the uk to contact people....COOL!!!

Some years ago I worked in traffic with a QRP transceiver. I made a lot of QSO even with 5W. The most essential thing is the antenna.
